Heavy traffic was reported along the Parliament Road due to a protest supporting former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, which was organized against the summoning of the former president to the Bribery Commission.
The parliamentary session heated up on Monday after the UPFA MPs backing Rajapaksa launched a sit-in against the move by the Bribery Commission. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa adjourned parliament and later summoned the Chairman of the commission to discuss the matter.
However the protesting MPs remained at parliamentary chamber last night.
Meanwhile, the MPs and Provincial Councilors supporting Rajapaksa organized a protest today outside the parliament circus. A Facebook campaign was also launched for the protest.
Police was called in this morning to the area as a precaution against possible protests.
