The group of MPs who were protesting overnight at the parliament consulted Mohan Peiris to obtain legal advice on how to proceed with their action against the government, reliable sources told Asian Mirror.
The MPs had consulted Peiris on how to block the parliament from proceeding with the 19th Amendment. They had discussed on whether to move a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister or take a different course of action.
Mohan Peiris was appointed as Chief Justice by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa after former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake was controversially impeached. Konwn as a Rajapaksa ally, he was reportedly present at Temple Trees on presidential election night. Peiris was removed from office after President Maithripala Sirisena came to power.
