Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa was remanded till May 5 by Kaduwela Magistrate a short while ago.

Rajapaksa was arrested this evening by FCID over complaints of financial fraud at the Divi Naguma Department. Former Economic Development Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka and Divi Naguma Project Director R.A.A.K Ranawaka were also arrested this evening.

They were produced before the Magistrate after their arrest and were charged under the Offenses Against Public Property Act. The main charge against them is the misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 70 million in the Divi Naguma Fund.

Kduwela Magistrate allowed Basil Rajapaksa to attend Parliament sessions next week. He will be admitted to prison hospital.
