Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva lashed out at the United National Party saying that it intentionally sabotaged the approval of the 19 th Amendment and blamed the opposition instead.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, de Silva claimed that the draft bill presented to the parliament did not contain the amendments suggested by the Supreme Court. Furthermore, the English translation was not provided to the MPs until 11.15am on Tuesday. Therefore, the opposition did not have enough time to study the document, de Silva stressed.
De Silva also pointed out that electoral reforms were promised under the 100 Days Program and said that it is an undeniable fact. He added that the SLFP still wanted to see electoral reforms enacted with the 19th Amendment.
