President Maithripala Sirisena asked all parliamentarians to support the approval of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
Speaking at a special convention of UPFA at Viharamahadevi Park, Sirisena said that the 19th Amendment is important because it reduces the executive president’s powers.
Sirisena added that he does not want to be a dictator and indicated that executive presidency can be harmful at the hands of a wrong person. He asked the parliamentarians to think from the people’s perspective and vote for the 19th Amendment.
The 19th Amendment will be debated on April 27 and 28, and the vote is to be taken on the afternoon of April 28.
