President Maithripala Sirisena on Saturday (25) said that he was always willing to work with former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Addressing a meeting with Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) organizers in Galle, Sirisena stated that he gave a date for a meeting with Rajapkasa because of that reason.
“Kumara Welgama and T.B Ekanayke came to meet me and told I and Rajapaksa should work together for the party. I said I had no problem with him.”The president asserted.
Welgama and Ekanaye requested for a meeting so I gave a date and a time, Sirisena told and questioned what he could do rather than that as the leader of SLFP.
He also remembered that several Buddhist monks were very keen to see an alliance between him and Rajapaksa.
“I know because of some rumors many people have a wrong image of me.”Sirisena said.
Beware of those people, who spread such rumors, he requested.
There was a meeting scheduled to be held on Saturday between president Sirisena and former president Rajapaksa, however on Friday (24) MP Kumara Welgama told media that the meeting was cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.
