A group headed by Western Provincial Councilor Mujibar Rahman on Sunday (26) filed a complaint with Cinnamon Gardens Police over the incident of using 'lion flag' without the two vertical lines during two recent protests.
On April 21 the flags were seen in the protest outside the parliament in support of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa. They were seen once again on April 23 at the protest outside the Bribery Commission in support of former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
However addressing a press briefing UPFA parliamentarian Dullas Allahapperuma on Friday (24) said that the incident should not have happened.
Western Provincial Councilor Udaya Gammanpila agreed with Alahapperuma and said that he did not notice the difference of the flags in their hands because of the atmosphere and tensed situation at the moment.
Rahman slammed these two statements and questioned if the two politicians would attend protests with LTTE flags if they were given any.
"They have caused a huge damage to the country by saying they did not notice the difference of that flag. The whole story they have come up with is totally ridiculous" he told media.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs S.D.A.B Boralessa stated that attention has been drawn towards introducing a standard decorative flag which safeguards the pride of the national flag, local media reported.
The program to standardize the national began several weeks before the controversial incident.
