Minister of Public Order and Christian Religious Affairs John Amaratunga told Asian Mirror that around 300-400 Sri Lankans will be awarded dual citizenship at a function at BMICH this morning.
The previous government had stopped awarding dual citizenship several years ago. However, Amaratunga stated that the previous government had given dual citizenship illegally to a number of people for money.
An inquiry will be held into this matter, Amaratunga said.
Controller General of Immigration and Emigration M.N. Ranasinghe also confirmed that dual citizenship will be awarded to a group of Sri Lankan citizens this morning.
