Former JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe has commenced a hunger strike at Independence Square in Colombo demanding to take an action against the alleged coup attempt on January 09, local media reported.
Speaking to Asian Mirror after resigning from JVP, Amarasinghe revealed that he was willing to conduct a hunger strike to force the government speed up the investigations but the party did not take it seriously.
‘That was one of the reasons which made me to resign from JVP’ he asserted.
The veteran JVP leader resigned from the party on April 16, saying that the party is intentionally delaying the process of building socialism in the country.
Speaking to local media recently, Amarasinghe told that he was preparing to establish a new party in the near future. He further stated that he was forming a new party to guide the JVP in the correct path.
