Dr Nirmal Ranjith dewasiri who was assaulted in Kirulapone on Friday (01) was discharged from the Colombo National Hospital this morning (02), local media reported.

Speaking to media Police Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told that the police was yet to disclose the group that attacked Dr. Dewasiri.

Special police unit has launched an investigation in connection with the incident, ASP Gunasekara added.

 Dewasiri, who served as the Chairman of the Federation of University Teachers Associations (FUTA) from 2012-2014, was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital following the attack with minor injuries.

He was attacked by an unidentified group during a May Day Rally held at the Lalith Athulathmudali Ground in Kirulapone.
