United National Party General Secretary Minister Kabir Hashim said that the UNP May Day rally showed that the majority of the people were with the party.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, he said that this year’s May Day rally was one of the most successful rallies ever in the history of UNP.

Hashim pointed out that the number of participants at the rally had exceeded the number of participants in all May Day rallies organised by other political parties and trade unions.

Hashim added that even though the present government was a minority in parliament, the majority of the people were with it. He added that it was the strength of the UNP, a common man’s party. Hashim further pointed out that UNP was able to elect two average citizens, Ranasinghe Premadasa and Maithripala Sirisena, as Presidents of the country.
