A meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa will take place at 1.30pm at the President’s Office in Parliamentary Complex.
President Media Unit released a statement saying that the discussion will specially focus on strengthening the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
“It will be strictly based on issues related to the SLFP and will not discuss anything related to ongoing activities of the Government” the statement further said.
It was reported earlier that Rajapaksa will raise the issues on arrests of his close associates at the meeting. He is also expected to oppose a move to form a national government. Instead, Rajapaksa is expected to form a government of the UPFA.
SLFP Media Spokesman Dilan Perera also said that the discussions will focus on sending PM Ranil Wickremesinghe home.
“The President will conduct the meeting in a manner that will not breach the trust and faith of nearly 6.3 million people who voted for him at the Presidential election on 8th January” the release by PMU said.
