The meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa took place this afternoon at the President’s Office at the Parliamentary Complex.
The discussions were focused on the future of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, reports said.
The meeting was held to iron out the differences between the two leaders which was increasing the divide in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
Discussions were focused on five main points including the Prime Ministerial candidate in the next election, allocation of nominations, contesting under the UPFA banner, prolonging the term of Local Government bodies and politicization of police Financial Crimes Investigations Division.
Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister MKDS Gunawardena, Minister Duminda Dissanayake, UPFA MP Faizer Mustapha, SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva took part in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Bandula Gunawardena, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Prof. G. L. Peiris, Kumara Welgama and Dullas Alahapperuma arrived with Mahinda Rajapaksa for the meeting.
