Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) held a prolonged discussion with Elections Commissioner on launching a political party, its National Organizer Vitharandeniye Nanda Thera told media on Wednesday.

He made this statement outside the Elections Commission after the meeting with the EC. Several monks of the BBS and its CEO Dilantha Withanage took part in the discussions with EC Mahinda Deshapriya.

On Tuesday, BBS CEO Dilantha Withanage said that BBS had discussions on the same matter with the EC earlier.

“We will have Buddhist monks as our spiritual leaders. Many people who have gained trust and respect from the citizens will join with us in future” Withanage told reporters on Tuesday. Nanda Thera too echoed Withanage’s statement following the discussions with EC.

“During presidential election period several supporters left BBS as we extended our support to former president Rajapaksa. They will also support us this time” BBS CEO told reporters on Tuesday.
