Police refuted the allegations by Sri Lanka Freedom Party that the Financial Crimes Investigations Division is politicized, Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, ASP Gunasekara said that the FCID was carrying out its investigations under the legal powers given to the police under Criminal Procedure Code, Penal Code and Offenses Against Public Property Act.

If there is any need for further legal advice, police will seek advice from only the Attorney General’s Department, he added.

Gunasekara said that the police respect the right of anyone to take legal action. However, the allegations leveled at the police FCID are false, he stressed.
