Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa are unlikely to meet again because the differences are too wide to be bridged, The New Indian Express said citing ‘an informed source in the Sirisena camp’.
Sirisena and Rajapaksa met at the parliament on Wednesday afternoon to iron out differences between them.
“At one point, when Rajapaksa threatened to walk out of the talks, Sirisena said he could walk out if he wanted to”, the source told TNIE.
“Sirisena’s going for the talks has created a very bad impression about him. Further talks will not take place,” the source said. Sirisena and Rajapaksa head two factions of the SLFP.
It was also reported that Sirisena had categorically refused the suggestion from Rajapaksa camp that he should be named the UPFA candidate for Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, a meeting demanding that Rajapaksa be named the UPFA PM candidate is being held this afternoon at Kurunegala.
