Frontline Socialist Party Propaganda Secretary Pubudu Jayagoda stated that the party was against the blatant environmental destruction that was taking place at Wilpattu Sanctuary and anywhere else in the country.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, Jayagoda also stated that FLSP is against making this a racial issue. Similar illegal clearing took place in Somawathi Sanctuary and it was a group of Sinhalese who were involved there, he pointed out. Irrespective of the race or religion, environmental destruction should be stopped, he stressed.

Meanwhile, if the people do have a land issue, it should also be addressed, he said. However, it should not be done for votes

Jayagoda also pointed out that Sri Lanka’s left movement has always represented the environment from its nascent days. Green Socialism is a concept that needs to be promoted more in the country, he said.
