Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court ordered on Monday (11) to release Janaka Ranawaka, the Mayor of Sri Jayewardenapura Kotte MC on a cash bail of Rs.10,000 with two sureties of Rs.100,000 each. 

 

Ranawaka was arrested by police on a complaint that he had assaulted the opposition leader of the Municipal Council Sugath Appuhami.

 

The alleged assault took place on Thursday (07) during a protest by Appuhami, who alleged that there was blatant corruption taking place in the municipal council. Appuhami filed a complaint at the Bribery Commission against Ranawaka few weeks ago.
