Criminal Investigations Department is interrogating UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena over the misuse of vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat.
A few weeks after the presidential election, 53 vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat were found by Police, abandoned at a yard in Colombo.
CID launched an investigation on the matter and in February, it arrested Former Transport Director of the Presidential Secretariat Keerthi Samarasinghe Dissanayake.
However, the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s aides kept saying that the vehicles were stationed at the yards belonging to the government.
Gunewardena, a close associate of the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa has been the subject of several inquiries after the fall of the former government. A court case filed by the Bribery Commission against him is already underway.
