UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa paid a visit to Welikada Prison last evening after MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena was remanded. Speaking to the media afterwards, Rajapaksa slammed ‘good governance’ and said that it was nothing more than taking revenge on trumped-up charges.
He said that on Monday morning Johnston Fernando was remanded further and in the afternoon MP Sajin Vass was also remanded. On Tuesday, another case will be taken at Angunakolapelassa on an army corporal, he said.
The army corporal was arrested for carrying a gun to a meeting attended by President Maithripala Sirisena. However, Namal Rajapaksa made a controversial statement claiming that the corporal had actually carried a water bottle.
However, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara recently told Asian Mirror that investigations have revealed that the corporal did actually carry a gun to the meeting. Since he was a member of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa's security detail, the corporal did not have authority to attend the meeting with Namal Rajapaksa, Gunasekara also said.
