The United National Party is attempting to build a grass root level support through dissolving the Local Government bodies and appointing a Commissioner for their administration, National Freedom Front Central Committee Member Mohammed Muzammil said.

Speaking at a media briefing this morning, Muzammil said that around 2000 of the 3000 members in the LG Bodies are members of UPFA and other progressive parties. UNP lacks this grass-root support, he added.

Muzammil said President Maithripala Sirisena should remember that the grass-root level support of Sri Lanka Freedom Party will be affected if a Commissioner is appointed to the local government bodies.
