Supreme court issued an interim order preventing Former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa from being arrested a short while ago.

 

Rajapaksa filed this Fundamental Rights (FR) petition on Monday (11) challenging the legality of the establishment of FCID. 

 

Through the petition, Gotabaya Rajapaksa also sought intervention of the Supreme Court to prevent his imminent arrest pending the conclusion of several purported investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Bribery Commission and FCID.

 

Justice Eva Wanasundera and Justice Sisira de Abrew considered the petition after Justice Buwaneka Aluwihare stepped down from the bench on personal grounds.

 

The petition will be taken up for consideration once again on the October 06.
