Inter University Bikkhu Federation will launch a demonstration near Fort Railway Station today, demanding the government to increase the intake of Buddhist monks to relevant university courses.
Other university students will also join the protest in support of the Bhikku students, an organizer told Asian Mirror.
IUBF is an affiliated union of the Inter University Students’ Federation.
This protest follows two weeks after a protest by IUBF which led to clashes near the University Grants Commission. Police on April 29 used teargas on the protesters including Buddhist monks who marched from Fort Railway Station to University Grants Commission.
The protest was organized against the alleged reduction of the number of monks admitted to universities.
One police officer was seriously injured in the clashes.
