Former Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said that the no-confidence motion against Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has the support of not only the opposition, but also of the government.
Speaking at a press briefing at Abhayaramaya Temple this morning, Peiris pointed out that three Cabinet Ministers have also signed the petition.
The former minister pointed out that the Parliament has full control over public finance. Therefore, the parliament should look into the matter concerning the Central Bank Governor, he stressed.
Peiris said that the opposition will request the motion to be debated when the parliament reconvenes next week.
Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who was accused of being involved in insider dealing in a Treasury bond issue in late February, returned to work in April, after a committee appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe cleared him of his role.
