The Cabinet sub-committee on the 20th Amendment is expected to meet today with President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for a special meeting on the amendment.
The subcommittee was appointed by President Sirisena at the cabinet meeting on May 13 to look into the proposals by smaller parties on the electoral reforms. The subcommittee composed of Ministers Kabir Hashim, S.B. Dissanayake, Lakshman Kiriella, Champika Ranawaka, Rauff Hakeem, Palani Digambaram, Gayantha Karunathilaka, Rishad Bathiudeen and Dr. Sarath Amunugama.
The Cabinet meeting on May 13 deferred the final decision on the 20th Amendment by a week. The subcommittee held several discussions last week and is expected to inform of its recommendations to the President.
