UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa slammed remembrance events held in several places in the north and east, raising the question if these were remembering terrorists.
"So many "remembrance" events today under the guise of honouring victims, despite court orders" Rajapaksa said on Twitter. He went on to ask “How many of these might be honoring terrorists? Is the Government condoning it by turning a blind eye?”
Several remembrance events were held across the north and east today to mark the end of the war in 2009. Northern Province Council Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran and other politicians took part in an event in Mullivaikkal in Mullaitivu, despite a ban on pro-LTTE events.
Meanwhile, former president Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to take part in a war heroes’ memorial event later today. The government ‘Remembrance Day’ will be held tomorrow at Matara.
