Parliament was adjourned a short while ago following a tense situation a short while ago after the opposition demanded that a no-confidence motion against the Central Bank Governor be debated in the House.
The opposition claimed that since the Parliament has authority over fiscal matters it can debate such a no-confidence motion, following the disputed Treasury bond issue.
The government however had maintained a counter argument, saying that there were no such provisions for a no-confidence motion against the CB Governor.
The CB Governor Arjuna Mahendran was accused of insider trading during the February 27 Treasury bond issue. A three member committee appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe later cleared him of direct responsibility.
