Parliament was adjourned till 1pm tomorrow after the Deputy Speaker told the House that the Speaker needs more time to study the matter regarding the no-confidence motion against the Central Bank Governor.
The parliament was adjourned earlier in the day when the opposition demanded that the no-confidence motion against CB Governor Arjuna Mahendran be debated in the House.
The opposition claimed that since the Parliament has authority over fiscal matters it can debate such a no-confidence motion, following the disputed Treasury bond issue.
The government however had maintained that there were no such provisions for a no-confidence motion against the CB Governor.
The CB Governor Arjuna Mahendran was accused of insider trading during the February 27 Treasury bond issue. A three member committee appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe later cleared him of direct responsibility.
