Sajin de Vass Gunawardena Should Be Allowed To Attend Parliament: Deputy Speaker

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody ordered that MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, who is in remand custody, be allowed to attend parliamentary sessions.

Opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva revealed that the remand prison had not taken any steps to allow Sajin de Vass Gunawardena to attend parliamentary sessions.

In response, deputy speaker said that no one can prevent any parliamentarian from attending sittings when Parliament is in session and added that the Secretary General of Parliament would take the necessary steps in this regard.

UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena was remanded by Fort Magistrate Courts on May 11, after being arrested by the CID over an incident of allegedly misusing 22 vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat.
