R.D. Wimaladasa was sworn in as a Member of Parliament to fill the seat vacated by the passing away of former deputy minister Niranjan Wickremasinghe.

Wickremasinghe passed away on May 12 after being admitted to the Panadura Hospital.

Wimaladasa contested the 2010 Parliamentary Election from Kurunegala District under the UPFA ticket. He came at 12th place with 44, 728 preferential votes, when UPFA won 10 seats in the District.

Wimaladasa is the SLFP Chief Organizer in Dodamgaslanda Electorate.
