Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah accepted the resignation of O. Panneerselvam as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and invited AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jeyaram to form a government.
Jayalalithaa Jeyaram was elected leader of the Legislature Party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly at a special Legislature Party meeting at AIADMK headquarters. Panneerselvam left to meet the Governor after this important, but brief meeting.
Panneerselvam was elected Tamil Nadu CM after Jayalalithaa Jeyaram was convicted of a Disproportionate Assets case in September 2014. However, she was released after an appeal, which made it possible for her to resume duties as CM.
Jeyaram is expected to meet the Governor later in the day to stake claim to form new government. She will first pay tribute to the statue of AIADMK founding leader M.G. Ramachandran.
