Opposition MPs Meet To Decide On 20th Amendment Debate: Parliamentary Session Likely To Be Stormy

The opposition members of the parliament are now meeting to discuss their course of action on the adjournment debate on the 20th Amendment, an opposition MP told Asian Mirror.

Since the SLFP and several other parties have expressed their opposition to the debate, the parliamentary session is expected to be stormy today. The session is scheduled to begin at 1.00pm.

The decision to hold an adjournment debate on the 20th Amendment was taken at the Party Leaders' meeting yesterday.

Jathika Hela Urumaya Chairman Athuraliye Rathana Thera walked out of the meeting yesterday and several other party leaders expressed their opposition.

A Member of Parliament supporting former president Mahinda Rajapaksa told Asian Mirror that the UNP is delaying the 20th Amendment since it wants the parliament to be dissolved before any debate on either the amendment or the no-confidence motions against the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.
