Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) leadership met with the authorities of the Central Bank to discuss the launching of financial services under Islamic principles by a private bank recently.
Speaking to media before the meeting, BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera stated that introducing religious based banking practices might create social division in the country.
Moreover BBS strongly believe such religious influences lead to situations against equal rights ensured in the constitution, Gnanasara Thera further asserted.
The issue was raised after a private bank recently launched Sharia Bank in a bid to better serve its customer base that requires Sharia-compliant financial products based on Islamic principles.
