Left-wing politician Kamal Deshapriya Mannapperuma passed away on June 24.

A medical student, he joined the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna as a full time member even without completing the degree.

Following the defeat of the insurrection in 1989, he was an active participant in rebuilding the party.

However, he left the JVP in 1994.

Later he joined the National Freedom Front but left it as well.

The funeral will take place today at 3pm at the Bombuwela Cemetery.
