A secret meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa took place last night at the Speaker's Official Residence, reports said.

 

A party was held at the residence of Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga last night. Rajapaksa had attended the party and had suddenly left for the meeting with Sirisena. Reports said that the former president returned to Ranatunga's residencew after the meeting.

 

No details have been released on the one-to-one meeting between the President and the former president.

 

This meeting took place hours after the six-member SLFP 'peace making committee' met with the former president.
