Udaya Rohan De Silva has been elected the new President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.
U. R. De Silva, an old boy of Ananda College, was called to the Bar in 1983.
He previously served as BASL Treasurer in 2008.
Speaking to his supporters after the election, the new President of the Bar Association said his victory was a display of unity.
"This is not my victory. This is your victory. This is the victory of the Sri Lanka Bar Association," Se Silva said, speaking to his supporters and fellow lawyers.
The much awaited election of the Sri Lanka Bar Association took place at 77 polling stations today.
Over 14000 Attorneys-at-Law across the country participated
Attorneys-at-Law Anura Maddegoda and S. Thangaraja ran against U. R. De Silva for President.
