Killing Dolphins has been prohibited even by the international law of the sea. Dolphins are considered to be an intelligent species of fish and called as Mulla by Sri Lankan fishers.
Sri Lankan waters are greatly inhabited by Dolphins and therefore it has become one of the main tourist attractions of our country. However, the anti-corruption unit of Trincomalee has found 12 Dolphins tied to a monofilament thread and hidden in the sea after been caught by a Beach seine by a group of fishermen in Trincomalee.
Hon Minister of Fisheries has instructed the Director General of the Fisheries Department to conduct an investigation in this regard and terminate the permit of the Beach seine operator related to this incident.
