The Finance Ministry and the Highways Ministry are among the key ministries that will undergo major changes at the next Cabinet reshuffle, highly placed government sources said.
Sources close to the President's Office said the President is determined to make his government's first reshuffle soon.
Although the President intended to make the move in January, this year, it had to be postponed due to heavy resistance from Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Both leaders, at that point, decided to discuss the matter in March.
Meanwhile, addressing a public event in Ambalanthota yesterday, President Maithripala Sirisena said Minister Mahinda Amaraweera would be given a 'bigger responsibility' in the near future.
It is speculated that Minister Amaraweera, the General Secretary of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), would be given the Ministry of Highways.
The Ministry of Highways is currently held by Minister Lakshman Kiriella who is also the Minister of Higher Education.
It was the President's first indication of the national unity government's cabinet reshuffle.
