Premalal Jayasekera Files Writ Application To Attend Parliamentary Sittings

Premalal Jayasekera, who is convicted of Murder has filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal seeking permission to attend parliamentary sittings.

Jayasekera was convicted for murder and given death sentence just days before the last Parliamentary election.

However, Jayasekera was able to get elected to Parliament with over 100000 votes from the Ratnapura district.

The Attorney General, in his observations, made it clear that Jayaskera could not be sworn in as an MP due to the conviction.

The Speaker, however, said he was committed to uphold the rights of those who voted for Jayasekera in his district.
