Transportation of ballot boxes and election officials to polling stations began this morning as preparations ramp up for the 2024 presidential election. Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake confirmed that ballot boxes and staff will be dispatched to 13,421 centers islandwide.
To streamline operations, 1,234 issuing centers have been established, with over 150,000 government officials deployed to assist at polling sites. Additionally, nearly 1,000 officials, including chief counting officers, have been sent to remote provinces from areas such as Colombo to ensure efficient election processes.
Police have implemented special security measures for the transport of ballot boxes and personnel. Police Media Spokesperson DIG Nihal Talduwa said that a tailored traffic plan has been established around polling stations to maintain safety and order.
Voting is set to occur tomorrow from 7 AM to 4 PM, with 17,140,354 eligible voters ready to select from 38 candidates in this pivotal election.
