State Takes Over Securities of 35 Presidential Candidates

September 24, 2024

The Election Commission said that the securities of 35 presidential candidates will be seized by the state following their failure to secure more than 12.5% of the vote in the 2024 election.

Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake confirmed that voter turnout exceeded 79%, slightly lower than the 83% recorded in the 2019 election.

Over 3.5 million eligible voters did not participate in this year's election.
