Sri Lanka's President Dissolves Parliament and Announces Election Dates

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has officially dissolved the Parliament of Sri Lanka, effective from midnight on September 24. This decision , taken under Article 70 of the Constitution, follows the provisions of the Parliamentary Elections Act.

The President has scheduled elections for new Members of Parliament on November 14, 2024. The newly elected body will convene on November 21, 2024.

The nomination period for candidates will open on October 4 and close at noon on October 11, during which nomination papers will be accepted by Returning Officers at specified locations.
