The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, said today that applications for postal voting in the upcoming parliamentary elections will be accepted from September 30 to October 7. This decision was made during a media conference in Colombo.
He confirmed that the 2024 voter list will mirror that used in the recent presidential election, allowing individuals who applied for postal voting then to retain their status without reapplying. However, those whose applications were previously rejected must address the issues leading to their rejection and submit a new application.
Additionally, individuals in service categories related to election duties who did not apply for postal voting in the last election will also have the opportunity to do so this time around.
He requested Certifying Officers to provide timely updates regarding any changes in the status of certified voters, including transfers or deaths, to ensure accurate records.
With 1,714,354 voters eligible to participate on November 14, the Election Commission plans to facilitate a smooth election process while accommodating students preparing for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examinations.
