Former Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara has called on the government to honor its pledge to eliminate fuel taxes, which would significantly reduce prices. He highlighted that during election rallies, officials promised to cut the tax on fuel, currently around Rs. 150 per liter. “If the taxes could be removed as they promised, a liter of diesel could be offered at Rs. 100,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude for the government’s continuation of relief measures previously approved but paused due to an election commission order. He mentioned an upcoming electricity price revision set for October, urging the government to expedite its approval process with the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).
