Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced today the extension of Sanath Jayasuriya's term as interim head coach of the men's national cricket team for another year. Sanath Jayasuriya, a former Sri Lanka captain, was initially appointed on July 7, 2024, and has since led the team during the home series against India and the Test tour to England.
This decision comes as SLC continues its search for a permanent replacement following the resignations of Chris Silverwood and consultant coach Mahela Jayawardene after the team’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup held in the USA and West Indies.
Under the captaincy of Wanindu Hasaranga, Sri Lanka failed to progress to the Super 8 round, highlighting the need for changes within the coaching staff.
