Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman D.J. Karunarathne reassured the public that there is no need for concern regarding fuel shortages, noting that sufficient stocks are being maintained.

In a media briefing, Karunarathne said that the CPC has established weekly stock maintenance schedules and has secured fuel orders for the next three months, with supplies planned through April next year. “There is absolutely no reason for any fuel shortage,” he affirmed.

He also noted that the government will adhere to a cabinet-approved fuel price formula, which he described as essential for transparency. Plans are underway to introduce a regulatory body to oversee fuel pricing, similar to the current system for electricity pricing.

Addressing concerns about foreign oil companies operating in Sri Lanka, he mentioned that local distributors have expressed reluctance to collaborate due to pressure from the previous subject minister. They aim to engage with distributors to resolve these issues effectively.
