The Egg Producers' Association and wholesale traders have reached an agreement to maintain the maximum retail price of eggs at Rs. 37. This decision follows discussions with M. M. Naimudeen, Secretary of the Ministry of Trade, who confirmed that directives have been issued to prevent sales above this price.
The agreement stabilizes egg prices and provide relief to consumers. Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of a special food policy committee tasked with overseeing future decisions on food prices, standards, and safety.
Secretary Naimudeen said that the collection of current price information for all imported food items has been completed, which will aid in controlling food prices and offering timely relief to the public.
The Consumer Affairs Authority has also reported that some essential food items are being imported at undervalued prices, leading to significant revenue losses. Importers and traders have agreed to adhere to stipulated prices to help regulate food prices and ensure fair trade practices.
