Weighing in on the recent debate across political stages over increasing public sector employees’ salaries, SLPP National List member Namal Rajapaksa has urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to clarify their positions on the promised salary increases.
Posting on X today (31 October), Rajapaksa claimed that both leaders pledged these increments during their campaigns, yet the matter has now “hit a dead end,” with each leader shifting responsibility.
Expressing concern for government employees, whom he called the “backbone” of the country, Rajapaksa warned that unfulfilled promises would lead to “frustration and turmoil.”
He further urged President Dissanayake to fulfil his campaign commitments, stressing that government employees deserve both clarity and action on this issue.
