Former MP Dilan Perera ate raw cabbage during a media briefing, protesting the government's failure to address the low prices of vegetables.

Perera said, “Few years ago, when the vegetable prices were so low and the farmers couldn’t sell the stocks, then JVP members heavily protested. Now that they are in power, they have to provide a solution for this. But we can’t see it, and many families in Badulla District cannot even afford three meals. They are starving. So, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who I believe is a creative leader, should provide a solution.” 

Perera then ate a piece of raw cabbage while speaking, saying, “the rice prices have been increasing these days and people cannot afford that too. Therefore, now the people have to eat cabbage instead of rice.”
