Former Mayor of Dambulla Jaliya Opatha was remanded until July 2 by Dambulla Magistrate late last night.

 

He was earlier arrested by the Special Police Investigation Unit, Kandy, over allegations of mining soil from Kandalama national forest illegally.

 

A large number of locals gathered around the police station last evening, after the arrest of the former mayor.
